Durbuy

Belgium charms its visitors with amazing and ancient cities such as Durbuy. It is considered the smallest town on the planet. 

History:  

“La plus petite Ville du monde” has a rich and impressive history, dates back since 1331; it was founded by Count John of Bohemia. Now, it is a prettiest and the smallest town on the earth, that counts 500 inhabitants. Durbay attracts visitors over the world by its finest shops, old stone houses and cobbled streets.

Things to do in Durbuy:

There are  a lot of wonderful  attractions for you not to miss while you are  in Durbuy, especially the Modave Castle (Chareau des Comtes de Marchin) where you can enjoy a great example of extravagant life in the 17th and 18th century; and get to know interesting facts about  watershed in Belgium. 

For the smallest city on the planet, Durbuy embraces a lot of cafes and restaurants such as the elegant Le Sanglier des Ardennes and the Hotel La Caleche in the downtown. 

Magic Topiary Park 

With 30,000 square meters Topiary Park is located in the smallest city that includes more than 250 amazing topiary figures, representing animals, people, and mysterious creatures. The most amazing fact is that some plants are more than 120 years old. 

The Confiturerie Saint-Amour 

Saint-Amour jam factory is worth visiting.  You may see the jam or buy the final products in the shop.

Other Places of Interest

Marckloff Brewery is the brewery restaurant, called “La Ferme au Chene” where you can taste a traditional Marckloff beer that retains the entire flavor from its past history.  The magic history of beer dates back to 1550 when Phillippe Marckloff established the second free brewery in the town and brewed beer well-known for a few hundred years as La Marckloff. Actually, the Trine family reconstructed the brand as a micro-brewery with a tasty rich amber beer in 1989. 

One last fascinating item of interest in the smallest town on the planet is Royal Baudouin Park, featuring 1.75 meter tall man, holding ten water fish in his arms. It was created by well-known Belgian sculptor Jean Michel Folon.  

It is not only the smallest town on the contemporary the luckiest one, because during the Battle of the Ardennes in 1944, Durbuy was mostly untouched. While other towns during the war were destroyed, the prettiest Durbuy survived.

Other attractions in Durbuy such as paintball, treasure hunt where you will collect clues that form a code to open the treasure chest; bear hunt, rafting, climbing as well as motorcycles are available.  

In the main street, there's a chance to see many motorcycles that sweep into the square. In fact, it’s a bikers' paradise surrounded by seductive and charming scenery.

Finally, the smallest town on the planet - Durbuy attracts the visitors over the world. Remember, size does matter – and small can be definitely charming.
