Belgium For The Family

Chocolates, waffles, Tintin and the Smurfs – these are just some of the many fun things that Belgium offers kids of all ages. If you’re travelling to Belgium with your family, make sure to bring with you a taste for adventure and prepare everyone for an amazing experience of a lifetime! Here are but a few of the interesting activities and sights for you and your children all around Belgium:

Brussels. Who says museums are just for grown-ups? The Musee des Enfants (Children’s Museum) has colorful and playful exhibitions for children from 4 to 12 years of age. The Scientastic Museum is a hands-on scientific learning experience where a day can be spent exploring over 90 interactive exhibitions, from playing with shadows to everyday tools and gadgets. Take a trip down memory lane at the Toy Museum where an assortment of toys made from the 19th century to the present are on display. Not to be missed is a visit to the Comic Strip Center which houses original Belgian comic strip drawings – meet the Smurfs, Tintin, Lucky Luke and many other comic strip characters. And there’s the famous monument of the Atomium, a towering magnification of an iron crystal where each of the nine steel spheres can be used as viewing decks or as exhibit halls. 

Other cities. The Zoo Antwerpen in Antwerp is a popular attraction for children, what with its large collection of animals from all over the world. Walibi in Wavre is a big theme park that has been serving up loads of fun for more than 36 years. With its thrilling roller coasters and water rides, it is an ideal summer destination for the family. Families can stay awhile in Liege and visit interesting attractions such as Chateau d’Ice, a theme castle which even has a science laboratory, the Aquarium Museum with its collection of over 2,500 species of fish from all over the world and the Wild Safari World with informative shows on exotic animals and a real African safari experience. Children will get a kick out of experiencing how it is to walk on the moon in the Euro Space Center in Luxembourg or spend hours of fun solving the maze in 11-hectare stretch that is The Labyrinth.

Sea: Why not take a cruise ship and spend some days on the water? From here, you may discover Holland's flowery scenery or even take a ferry to Denmark.
