Study in Belgium

Belgium is a home of NATO and the European Union. It is an international country that borders with the Netherlands and France. The Universities, schools, colleges, and educational programs in Belgium are supported by the Flemish government in the Higher Education in Flanders Register. 

The system of education follows the Bologna declaration. In 1999, the Bologna process was initiated with the aim of creating educational standards for academic degrees among the 29 European countries signing the declaration. The main aim of declaration is to make it easier for students to travel all over Europe, and to improve the quality of Belgian higher education. 

According to the Bologna system, higher education is kept due to the Master or Bachelor system:  bachelor's degree 3 years as regards Master's degree: 1 or 2 years. The main languages are French and Dutch, mostly all courses are provided in English.

Cost of Tuition in Belgium

A Study fee at Belgian universities is €800 per year on average. In some cases the fee can be slightly more, like for postgraduate courses.

On a large scale, higher education in Belgium is financed by the public authorities. Otherwise, the Belgian students have to pay a registration fee. On average, the rate is approximately 800 Euro for one year. Admittedly, foreign students must pay additional fees, it depends on the type of study.

The total expenses for education in Belgium depend on kind of university and way of life.

Generally speaking, the foreign students will need at least 700 euro per month for living, not taking into account registration fees. The cost for accommodation is 200 -300 euro per month. 

Belgium offers a professional education system in safe, supportive environment and excellent possibilities for intellectuals. If you decide to get a higher diploma in International Relations or Political Science, Brussels is probably the right place to relocate.

University of Antwerp

The University of Antwerp featuring its high standards in education, was founded in 2003. It counts more than 13.000 students and over 1.200 international students. The University of Antwerp is the third largest university in Flanders. It offers both graduate and undergraduate programs in English. Subject areas offered include the humanities, medical sciences, and educations as well as doctoral programmes. 

Catholic University of Leuven

The University of Leuven is a modern university and the oldest catholic university in the word as well. It is located in the heart of Belgium, founded by Pope Martin in 1425.

The University of Leuven offers several English-speaking degrees, doctoral levels and primarily at the masters. The main subjects include the humanities, science, engineering, technology, and biomedical sciences as well.

Ghent University:

Ghent University is located in Ghent, founded in 1817 by King William I. It counts more than 32,000 students and 7,100 staff members.  Ghent University has 11 faculties and more than 130 departments.

Free University of Brussels (VUB)

The original Free University of Brussels was founded in 1834 by a Brussels lawyer; he wanted to create a university that would be independent from the state and the church.  You may find about 10.000 students here.  It offers large verities modern disciplines in different fields. A lot of international students come to get higher education here. 

The Open University in Belgium

The Open University was established in 1982 in Belgium.
