There must be no person who wouldn't try famous Belgian Beer. Here are some most favourite and tasty types. Check, if you had all the tastes.
It is not a secret that Belgians are the experts in beer. The country that has thousands of breweries scattered on its territory definitely knows how to make it. To help you be more experienced in beer before your trip to Belgium, we´ll introduce you the top 10 best Belgian beers:
- Bush Beer
The original version of 12% Bush beer is claimed to be the strongest in Belgium. It has a nice golden color and great aroma. The 7,5% Bush is a pale ale with a little touch of coriander. - Chimay
There are four types of Chimay beers: red, blue, white and golden. The red is sweet and has a nice fruity aroma, blue is creamy with a slight bitter taste. Produced by Trappist monks, Chimay beers are considered to be among the best beers in the world. The monks themselves prefer golden and it is pretty hard to get as there is no mention of it even on the brewery’s own website. - La Chouffe
The brand has a very recognizable logo – a red gnome. It is very refreshing, with a little bit of coriander and a peachy aftertaste. - De Koninck
Being a famous product of Antwerp’s brewery de Konick is a standard beer with a sharp aftertaste. - Kwak
Kwak – is the product of Bosteels brewery. Ordering Kwak for the first time will be lifetime experience. It comes in wooden stand with monogramed glass and has a light fruity aroma. - Hoegaarden
Light and very refreshing Hoegaarden is named after a small town near Leuven. It is made from equal components of wheat and malted barley. Wheat beer is now extremely popular. - Leffe
Made in Lueven, Leffe is produced in two varieties: Leffe Blond and Leffe Brune. Blond has a light orange floavor while Brune is dark with slightly bitter taste. - Orval
Oval is probably the world’s most distinctive malt beer. It is produced in the Ardennes in the brewery which was found in the 12th century by monks. - Westmalle
Trappist monks claim this beer to cure insomnia, loss of appetite and help to reduce stress. Westmalle Tripel and Westmalle Dubbel are their most famous beers. Tripel is incredibly aromatic and a bit creamy while Dubbel is dark and malty. - Lambic
The majority of Lambic beer is produced in Brussels area according to the old traditions. Lambic beers are usually tart as they are made with raw wheat and very often malted barley. Draught lambic is very rare but it is served in the cafes and bars in Brussels.
A lot of Belgian beer brands are sold in bottles, as the country exports 60% of its beer. In Europe the most popular Belgian brands are Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe. There are a lot of beer festivals even outside Belgium that offer exclusive bars with Belgian beer only as the alternative to local beers. In North America Kwak, Palm and Karmeliet are more popular than in other countries.
There are even some traditional dishes made with beer, for example wheat beer with seafood, dark beers with dark meat and fruit lambrics with desserts.
